BONSAI SIZES

Bonsai are classified in three size categories.

The first one is for miniature bonsai often refer to as Shohin.

The Shohin category is divided in three sub categories.

The first sub category of the shohin bonsai is Shito or Keshitsubo. These  are bonsai of 7 cm or less in size. They are very tiny and are often sowed from seed in the display pot. The pot is no bigger then a thimble in volume. 

The second sub category of the shohin size bonsai is known as Mame.(pronounced mar-may) Those bonsai have a size between 7 and 20 cm.

The last and third sub category is known as the Komono or Katade-Mochi. They have a size ranging from 20 to 30 cm.

The second category of Bonsai is called Chiu or Chumono. Those are medium size bonsai having a size of 30 to 60 cm. They are easily moved by one person.

The third size and category is called Dai or Omono. They vary in size from 60 cm to 1,20 m. They have to be moved by two or more persons.
